En Marc Boada es un experto en química y minerales. Nos trae dos maletines llenos de piedras compuestas por diferentes minerales. A través de la observación de las piedras nos va explicando los minerales que podemos encontrar en la tierra, sus características y su utilidad. En la tierra existe un total de 91 minerales naturales, ni más ni menos. Estos minerales se pueden encontrar de manera natural combinados entre sí y el ser humano puede crearlos también artificialmente combinándolos y llegando a tener más de 7000 combinaciones posibles. Marc Boada también profundiza sobre la composición de la materia, la anti-materia, protones y antiprotones, conceptos más complicados de comprender para los pequeños pero ideales para los adolescentes que disfrutan preguntando.
This week the girls Judit and Sara, looked
at a new book by Kevin Crossley Holland called ‘Storm’. We looked at the
character Annie and where she lived and thought about how different it is to
our own setting. We used a comparing chart to think up some facts to decide
what was the same and different with Annie and the girl’s lives. We then did a
character profile on Annie’s character (she was the main character from the
book). When we got up to chapter 4 we decided to think of what would happen
next in the story. I wonder if Judit and Sara were right about how they thought
the story would end? Then they wrote a letter to Annie using key questions we
could ask her. After we read the last chapters the girls wrote a new chapter
with the ghost.
Through the course of the week, the girls
have been checking back through their understanding of editing sentences to
check that they make sense and that there are full stops and capital letters in
place.
Sergi and Jordi have been looking at the
letter sounds ‘a’ and ‘o’ when they have been reading. We played some on-line
games to hear how the letters were pronounced. Then we looked at the short
story ‘cat and dog.’ Both boys had a go
at sounding out the letters and blending them in the words correctly. Jordi
stuck the pictures from the story with the correct sentences and writing the
missing words to complete the sentences and Sergi had a go at matching the
words to the pictures. Jordi is getting faster at forming the letters and
completing the words in his writing.
In their science work, the girls looked at
the units ‘living things’ and ‘Ecosystems’ They read through the science units
independently and checked that they understood some of the tricky words and
ideas. They then did a short comprehension test based on the units to show that
they understood what they are learning, they are completing their power point
projects of their units.

Penedès es el nuevo escenario para la presentación de proyectos de Enero. Judit
y Sara presentan la civilización Egipcia, Alice nos habla del proceso de
momificación que seguían los Egipcios para enterrar a los muertos, Marta
nos habla del arte de la cerámica y nos
enseña unas obras que ha realizado ella misma con diferentes técnicas, Esdras
centra su proyecto en el país de Alemania, Josué nos explica los números
romanos, Ariel hace una investigación a lo largo de un mes y medio sobre el
tiempo meteorológico de su ciudad, Estel nos enseña cómo hacer ganchillo, el proyecto de Telma va sobre pintura y nos
enseña una de sus últimas obras y cómo la ha realizado, Teo y Otto nos
impresionan con sus trabajos artísticos realizados con materiales reciclados y
con la ayuda de su padre. Entre todos los niños, los que presentan y los que escuchan, se crea un clima intenso de aprendizaje.
Viajamos a las
Garrigas, comarca de Lleida famosa por la producción excelente de aceite de
oliva. Visitamos un pueblo llamado el Cogul, conocido en todo el mundo por sus
pinturas rupestres, la roca del moro o más conocida por la balma del Cogul.
Desde 1998 es patrimonio de la humanidad por la UNESCO. Es una increíble piedra
que se levanta al lado del camino y está repleta de pinturas rupestres,
pintadas a través del tiempo. Forma parte del arte levantino y su antigüedad se
remonta al neolítico. Aparecen figuras humanas, cazadores, un grupo de mujeres,
animales y inscripciones ibéricas y romanas. La sorpresa es que las pinturas
han ido perdiendo intensidad de colores a través del tiempo y hay que
concentrarse para poder visualizarlas todas, aunque con la ayuda de los expertos
se puede conseguir. Pasamos un día fantástico con las demás familias y para
finalizar el día visitamos las tumbas de Saladar datadas del siglo VII d.C y un
molino de producción de aceite, donde pudimos experimentar cómo se produce el
aceite, un complemento ideal para terminar el viaje educativo.
To
share their experience of their holiday on Saturday and Sunday, the children
began the week, researching information, planning and typing up a report to
share their experience about what happened to them on their visit to Vall de
Nuria.
We
began by looking at the information book “the Ice and snow book” by Gill
Munton. They also looked at an example of someone else’s holiday report to a
city. From these resources we gathered
detail such as the different activities (building a snowman, tobogganing and
snowball fights that you could do with ice and snow), using description and
detail and paragraphs. We also concentrated on the useful vocabulary from the
book to help us with ideas for their reports. Sara and Judit created plans in
writing and then typed up their first drafts using Microsoft publisher.
The
girls did some grammar work based on their use of personal pronouns (he, she,
they, I and we) to help them edit and improve their report. Sergi and Jordi
learned how to form the letter ‘a’ we practised by drawing in the sand and
Jordi had a go at writing the letter carefully on the line. Sergi is practising
to hold the pencil correctly.
Sergi
and Jordi looked at a book called “The snowman” which is a Biff, Chip and
Kipper story. The boys revisited colour names by describing the clothes that
the snowman wore. Jordi had a go at putting the story in the correct order. He
did very well and then he tried writing the sentences again.
In
maths the girls began their mental maths booklets which helps support their
rapid recall of maths facts, we revised subtraction skills and learned one
method of subtraction called counting on. The girls used a blank number line
and with the smallest number they counted to the next ten and then counted in groups
of ten to the next bigger digit such as 100 or 1000. Lastly, the girls added
the jumps to find the subtracted amount which is the answer to complete the
number sentence.
Jordi
and Sergi began their week of maths by ordering numbers of amounts in the
correct order, Sergi was joining in in counting up to five. Jordi did very well
in completing his up to nine. Jordi then
practised writing the numbers one and two in English and drawing the right
amount to make the counting statement correct.
En pleno invierno plantamos las patatas que recolectaremos para san Juan. A
medida que pasan los años, trabajando a través del proyecto huerto, los niños
aprenden los ciclos de las verduras, cuándo plantarlas, cuándo recolectarlas,
la siembra, cómo germinan las semillas, cómo crecen, cómo florecen, cómo dan
fruto, además el tener que responsabilizarse del cuidado del huerto también les
fomenta el comer de manera saludable. Les gustan todas las verduras, unas más,
otras menos, pero en general aprecian el consumo de verduras frescas,
cultivadas por ellos, con respeto al medio ambiente y sin utilizar productos
fitosanitarios. Se trata de una
actividad educativa completa que les alimenta la mente y el cuerpo además de
adquirir unas herramientas básicas que les pueden servir para el resto de sus
vidas.
Care Santos es una de las escritoras actuales más prolíferas y exitosas. Ha recibido numerosos premios, entre ellos el premio Ramón Llull 2014 con su novela Desig de Xocolata. Sus obras han sido traducidas a más de 23 idiomas, incluso en Chino y algunas de sus obras se han adaptado al cine y a la televisión. Empezó a escribir cuando tenía 8 años y su primera novela a los 10 años. Desde entonces tuvo muy claro que lo suyo era escribir libros. En apenas 20 años ha escrito más de 100 libros. Su trayectoria profesional hace pensar que estamos ante un genio de la literatura de nuestros tiempos.
Judit y Sara les encanta leer sus obras para literatura infantil y juvenil, la colección Arcanus, la colección Milena Pato, la colección el Genio Ifigenio, entre otros muchos tantos, así que han disfrutado entrevistando a la autora.
This week we
have made even more progress in researching for projects and putting together
presentations, as well as some great grammar and maths exercises and a big
clean.
For
presenting this week we used the science book for subjects and then had a few
set exercises, such as presentations on the weather and climates from around
the world. Judith and Sara used their ICT skills to search the internet for the
best websites providing facts on these subjects. These websites included the
BBC, science for children and the University of Manchester for children
website. They found a healthy combination of reading, listening and videos as
well as diagrams and pictures. Their skill at breaking down large amounts of
information into bitesized facts has really improved, this showed in their
presentations and discussions.
Jordi and
Sergi showed interest in their presentations, and were keen to help set them up
and help them run. They also drew inspiration from the pictures and used it to
make some of their own. Jordi and Sergi both made ‘picture trains’, which would
include five or six pictures with a theme, that they would then stick together
to make one larger picture. Jordi has shown real improvement of writing words
from memory, as well as recognising words and speaking them. He was trying to
fill a whole notebook this week with at least a word on each page, and is
almost there!
Judith and
Sara also worked through a lot of maths and grammar. This included adding and
taking away in tens, hundreds and single digits. They would use examples like
money to break down digits into their meanings, such as £1 as 100 pence, and
perform sums with them. In grammar, they focused on re writing sentences to use
forms such as ‘I/she/they should’, and then the negative form. They would do
this by reading large chunks of text and then writing out the sentences to
summarise.
The week
ended with a big tidy of the classroom and the storage cupboard. They learnt
the importance of organising they resources and how it makes things run more
smoothly. We organised the cupboard into different boxes and labelled them. We
also took out a lot of the rubbish and decided what to throw away. It was a
great way to end with a lot of teamwork!
Nos reunimos en el Mas Dalmau para presentar los proyectos que han realizado los niños durante el mes de diciembre. Marina nos habla de arquitectura, otra manera de construir las viviendas con un libro muy original que muestra diferentes habitáculos de todo el mundo, Telma construye una televisión para presentarnos su proyecto de los colores primarios y secundarios, Erik nos habla de las excavadoras y retroexcavadoras, un proyecto que entusiasma sobretodo a los niños, Estel diseña y confecciona un bolso, Marta nos presenta dos instrumentos de viento metal, el bombardino y la trompeta, Judit y Sara profundizan en los orígenes de la humanidad, la prehistoria, el paleolítico y el neolítico. Finalmente Jordi nos presenta un proyecto que ha diseñado con su hermano Sergi y con la ayuda de su padre, un circuito de agua, con un depósito, dos fuentes y dos llaves de paso.
