Els vilars d'Arbeca, jaciment Iber

Els Vilars d’Arbeca és un jaciment arqueològic del temps dels Ibers, 775 a.C. És una fortalesa construïda de pedra. Onze torres i una muralla conformen el tancat. A dins està ple de cases i al bell mig  del centre una cisterna enigmàtica d’on sempre en brolla aigua. La fortificació és plena d’incògnites, els fetus de cavall descoberts als  seus murs, els seus orígens,el seu abandó, la importància de l’aigua, etc. La Sara i la Judit s’han quedat ben meravellades d’observar el pou que tants problemes dona als arqueòlegs, els cal una bomba constant per anar buidant, d’altra manera s’ompliria tot d’aigua,  és una font natural.

A més a més del projecte dels Ibers, estan preparant una representació del sistema solar per penjar al sostre. Els apassionen els planetes i les estrelles, a quina distància estan, quan mesuren, quan pesen... Per poder calcular àrees i volums d’esferes primer ens  cal conèixer Pitàgores i el seu famós número PI, i dominar bé els conceptes de perímetre i diàmetre. S’han fet un bon tip de mesurar circumferències i efectivament tal com deia Pitàgores, perímetre dividit per diàmetre surt 3,14... un número màgic i infinit.

English and Science

This week Sara and Judit got new English books and have been working very hard on them. This week we made a new exercise where the both girls must read a chapter of a book each and at the end they ask questions to each other about the story. This is a good activity to see how well they understand what they are reading and that they are not just concentrating on pronouncing words in English.

We have been studying biology and the body and this week it was the eye. After finding out with textbooks how the eye functions we then carried out an experiment. Using a toilet tube, foil, wax paper, elastic bands and card we made a seeing tube that represents the eye and helped the children to better understand how the eye functions.

Temps de préssecs

Per aprendre a pelar fruita no hi ha res millor que pelar quilos i quilos de fruita. Conservem el préssec en almívar, aigua i sucre al 50%. Els pots tancat al buit es guarden durant tot l’any. En Jordi, la Sara i la Judit ens ajuden en el procés, pelar, netejar pots, omplir, fer l’almívar, bullir els pots i guardar-los.

Els diumenges a la tarda aprofiten per anar a jugar amb les seves amigues del barri, ja en són una colla.

 

 

 

 

 

 

La puput

Dues parelles de puputs es passegen per casa. S’estan preparant per emigrar a l’Àfrica quan comenci el fred. Mentrestant mengen cucs, erugues, formigues, grills…  

En Jordi prova d’escriure i imitar a les seves germanes fent gargots petits i menuts, el seu llenguatge escrit, fa gracia observar com es concentra. La Sara i la Judit treballen amb l’ordinador, busquen per Internet informació i escriuen els resums al Word.

El dilluns amb moltes famílies que escolaritzen a casa ens vam manifestar davant el departament d’ensenyament a Barcelona en un acte de protesta per tal que es reguli la nostra opció educativa. Vam construir una R gegant de Regulació i tots els nens van pintar en un mural llarguíssim de dalt a baix de les escales. Defensem el dret a decidir l’educació, l'educació lliure.

Wooden letters

Today me and Jordi spent time working on his English, we started by working with the wooden letters and Jordi was practicing using the sounds of the letters in English, when I called out a letter he would repeat back to me. We tried out his recognition of the letters by me calling out the sound and he choose the correct letter out, Jordi is not even three years old yet so being able to recognize the alphabet is really impressive. We work in short periods of time when we have the chance to work one on one and he manages to stay fully focused and really enjoy working in English. We are also learning numbers in English, when we count to ten sometimes he jumps ahead as he knows what is coming next! By using the wooden numbers and letters Jordi really benefits as he has something physical he can learn with and he is a very hand on learner so we also get to play games with the letters and numbers and use them to draw round and allow him to make his own.

La tecnologia al servei de l'aprenentatge

Hi ha molts portals a la Red per dissenyar les nostres activitats i treballar les competències lingüístiques, matemàtiques, artístiques, socials, naturals i els nens poden inclús dissenyar ells mateixos les activitats que volen treballar. Educaplay és un d'aquest portal on et registres gratuïtament i pots fer a mida tots els jocs educatius que cregueu interessants, per totes les edats, sopes de lletres, mots encreuats, endevinalles, fomentant l'educació personalitzada i integrant les TICS a l'aprenentatge del nen, tant amb anglès, castellà, català hi ha molts idiomes disponibles.

Una bufanda de llana

És bonic observar com s’enllaça la llana amb les agulles fent els punts i com a poc a poc es forma el teixit, suau i càlid ideal per al hivern. És un art mil·lenari senzill i útil que passa de generació a generació. Treballem tant competències lingüístiques, matemàtiques com artístiques.

 

 

La biblioteca

Amb el setembre comença de nou el curs i les excursions a la biblioteca. Els agrada molt llegir i buscar llibres nous, autors que no han llegit mai, aventures màgiques, fades i protagonistes valentes. Un cop es llegeixen el llibre fan un resum amb l’ordinador i el presenten a la bibliotecària. Així van acumulant un arxiu de tots els llibres que s’han llegit amb l’opinió personal inclosa, aspecte que ens interessa molt ressaltar perquè vagin forjant la seva crítica i raonament del argument del llibre, de l’estil literari, si els ha resultat fàcil o difícil, avorrit o divertit, etc. Una altra excursió que fem sovint és la granja, sempre trobem vaques menudes recent nascudes com la que hem trobat avui que encara li penjava el cordó umbilical. Aprofitem i agafem llet per fer els formatges i beure’n durant la setmana. Han estat uns dies fantàstics amb la Laia com a germana gran, amiga i confident.

 

 

Time capsules

This week as the children have had Laia staying with them we decided to do something really fun and make a time capsule to burry in the garden. We started by using just normal tubs from chips and the girls all decorated their capsule drawing pictures and writing their names around the outside. We talked about what they would like to put inside the capsule and they all decided to write a letter about their lives at the moment, what they like to do now and also what they would like to do when they are older. This was a lot of fun as all three girls came up with really different things and it will be so much fun for them when they are older to dig this up and see the letters they have written to their future selves! They also included a drawing each, Judit one of the garden, Sara one of space and Laia one of a girl and they all printed off some photographs to put into their capsules. When they were all finished we wrapped them in plastic, bags and tape and then more plastic bags! the girls and Jordi dug a big hole and we buried it deep down and covered with a big Stone with a carving in it so hopefully in years to come they can all dig it back up and enjoy what they made in 2013!!

 

 

 

 

Cols, bròquils i coliflors

Setembre ens recorda que l’estiu està a punt d’acabar. Collim les pomes, llaurem el camp i plantem totes les verdures de l’hivern, cols, escaroles, bròquils, coliflors, cebes i porros. Aquesta setmana ens ajuda la Laia, una cosina que sap fer tombarelles, laterals i verticals com ningú, la Sara, la Judit i en Jordi volen copiar-la, els caldrà practicar bastant si volen assemblar-s’hi...

 

 

 

Calligrams

 

Today we spent some time working on Calligrams, Sara and Judit both having understood the task of shape poems and finding words which uses the way the letters are written to add to the meaning of the words then used the dictionary to look for possible words they could both use. This was a really fun exercise as it had both girls really understanding the words they were looking for, what the words do  (describing) and they got to use their imagination and creativity to complete the task but colouring, cutting and sticking. Sara went for small, happy, sad, big and beautiful, Judit for thin beautiful, big and wobbly! It was interesting also as it made Sara and Judit think about which certain colours they relate to different words and feelings and why they associate these together, which was interesting and something we are going to work more on. Also in the clip you will see another small piece of video today from Judit working on her English book and really impressing today!

 

 

La patata d'agost

Ahir la lluna era plena, enorme i ens va deixar fer-li una foto preciosa on s'observen els cràters i una bona lluminositat. Amb la lluna plena d'agost és temps de plantar patates, una collita que collirem per Nadal si tot va bé. Sembrar és una festa. Té una preparació i un ritual. Es llaura la terra perquè sigui tova i plena d’oxigen. Es rega i  es posa abono. Es fan els cavallons i es sembra. Esperem que plogui i en unes setmanes començaran a despuntar les patateres.

La Sara i la Judit han acabat el vestit que estaven cosint. Estan orgulloses és el seu primer vestit.

 

 

Projecte Montserrat

La muntanya de Montserrat és preciosa i màgica diu la Sara quan passem amb el cotxe per l’autovia. Des que és ben petita que li agrada i hem anat un parell de vegades a visitar el monestir i la Moreneta. Un dels seus projectes d’estiu ha estat visitar la muntanya per dins, endinsar-se dintre les coves i conèixer l’interior de Montserrat. Ha descobert llegendes, i històries antigues, la serra de Montserrat és mil.lenària. L’orígen del monestir és incert, alguns historiadors diuen que data de l´any 800, què en fa de temps! Montserrat sempre ha sigut un referent de la nostra cultura, llengua i país. Diu la dita: “no és ben casat qui no porta la dona a Montserrat”.

 

Writing a story

Today Sara and Judit wrote a story each but they were given rules, no fairies, no princess and no monsters! So they had to really use their imagination and make up stories different from what they normally do. Sara made up a story about a girl and a tiger but she really impressed me because in her story a bad thing happens but when I asked her about it she explained that she wanted to make the story exciting and for the readers to be unsure whether it is a happy ending or not! Judit made up a really good story about an owl, her writing skills are really impressive and her grammar is excellent. In the video you can see both Sara and Judit reading a little bit of their stories.

Matemàtiques divertides

Diu la historia que els nombres tal i com els coneixem ara provenen dels hindús, abans fèiem anar els nombres romans amb la combinació de 6 lletres I, V, X, L, C, M, quin embolic fer sumes i multiplicacions amb aquestes xifres! I perquè contem amb sistema decimal i no en binari? Cóm es conta amb binari? És curiós conèixer que hi ha moltes maneres de fer, al cap i a la fi el llenguatge matemàtic és inventat. Com seria fer sumes base 35? Conèixer aquests principis és elemental si volem potenciar en els nens la seva ment creativa i investigadora. La ciència evoluciona i ells n’han de ser protagonistes.

 

 

 

 

Animals salvatges

És fantàstic quan la natura ens regala lliçons tan pràctiques i experimentals. Despertar de bon matí amb el cuac cuac dels ànecs salvatges, descobrir un eriçó sota uns matolls, i observar un mussol que ens contempla i vigila. És ideal per motivar a la Sara, en Jordi i la Judit a buscar per la web informació dels eriçons, dels ànecs i dels mussols. Els eriçons com en Punxes, així l’han batejat, són animals que poden viure fins a 7 i 10 anys. Són mamífers, neixen del ventre de la mare i s’alleten 5 setmanes. Tenen orelles petites, potes curtes i ungles molt llargues. Hivernen durant la temporada de fred.  El mussol és una au nocturna per això té els ulls tan grans i pot bellugar el cap pràcticament 360 graus. Són grans caçadors i tenen una vista i oïda espectacular. Surten durant el vespre però molts cops els hem descobert observant-nos al matí, al migdia, ens vigilen... o potser amb el xivarri no els deixem dormir?

El piano: constància, treball i superació personal.

Per tocar una cançó al piano primer cal saber-la. Cantar-la, tocar-la a mans separades, de memòria. És un procés llarg, no s’aconsegueix amb una sola sessió, hi ha tota una feina darrera d’estudi i esforç. Quan ja podem tocar sense problemes les mans separades i de memòria és quan estem preparats per ajuntar mans i tocar la cançó. Cal vigilar el temps, no tocar massa fort o massa fluix, la postura corporal. Quan la tècnica està apresa és quan podem començar a escoltar-nos, gaudir la melodia i endinsar-nos dins la música. Moltes vegades aquest punt final ens el saltem i és una llàstima perquè és el més important. No importa tant saber moltes cançons, una i ben feta. En Jordi comença l’estudi formal. Ja no val tocar el que li  sembla i com li sembla. La posició correcta amb nens de 2 anys és tocar les notes amb el dit polze i l’índex a la vegada, com si féssim una O, preparem la mà, han de saber aguantar-la sense tocar i fer-ho a la nostra ordre i la nota que determinem. Sembla fàcil però els suposa un gran esforç. És interessant l’aprenentatge d’un instrument a més a més del punt de vista musical hi ha tota una sèrie de valors molt útils i en desús a dia d’avui,  constància, treball, esforç, saber esperar, escoltar, tenir paciència i motivació de superar-se.

 

Autonomy

As important as all the learning activities and games the children play to aid their development in a home school environment it is also important that they learn how to live and be independent and this week we have  made a video showing the typical tasks the children do on a weekly basis. From cooking lunch by themselves by following recipes, to how they understand the importance of working as a team to get tasks like cleaning completed and working together to help each other out when someone needs it. It is a big part of the development for all children and Sara, Judit and even little Jordi really thrive on carrying out these tasks. This week was spaghetti, by following the recipe the girls not only learn cooking skills but also as they are the ones making the food they start to question where it comes from, which country and how it is made, so they are learning all the time. We also made donuts along with a big mess but as you can see everybody helped out to clean up and  follow our daily chores like collecting the eggs.

 

 

 

 

La vida és art

Aprenem a escriure amb facilitat des que som ben petits. Escrivim contes, redaccions, petits resums i treballs. A ningú se li acudiria dir que cal talent per escriure o que no tothom ho pot fer, frase com jo no serveixo per escriure sonen tan ridícules com dir no serveixo per parlar. En canvi no dominem de la mateixa manera les arts plàstiques i això que als nens se’ls fa dibuixar i pintar molt a la classe. A tots ens ha tocat l’assignatura de plàstica, però sabem realment dibuixar? Per què pensem que no tenim talent? Cal talent per dibuixar? Segur que si volguéssim exposar quadres amb alguna galeria d´art ens faria falta talent, de la mateixa manera ens farà falta talent si volem escriure un best seller. La majoria no sabem dibuixar perquè no ens n'han ensenyat.

Alhora de dibuixar cal fixar-se molt bé què volem, mira-ho, enquadrar-ho, tenir cura amb les proporcions, la perspectiva, els colors, els detalls, només cal observar i anar provant, corregint i anar fent. No és tan important el resultat, sinó el procés. Això és el que valoro de la Sara i la Judit quan dibuixen. Quan collíem els gerds s’han fixat que són delicats, el color,  la forma, buits per dintre, se’ls han menjat tots perquè els encanten, però n’han guardat un per dibuixar la senzillesa i la perfecció de la natura.
