Cakes and Grammar!



Hello!!

On Monday the girls wanted to make cakes! We had lots of very ripe fruit in the house so we made some scrummy wholemeal fruit muffins (I don't have a photo of the end products... they didnt last long enough!!). Here`s a video and some photos of the cooking though! The girls even did the washing up (and everything came out clean, without even flooding the floor!!) :)

Yesterday before the girls went to tennis we made good use of a short amount of time by doing some grammar. I don't use the term 'grammar' with the girls, I don't feel any need to confuse them with technical terms, but we did practise the past which is what the use a lot in their homework. I chose some words for Judit that she uss a lot and she new most of them without any help (yes some of the spelling is wrong, but that's another lesson!!). Sara did ome which follow the '-ed' pattern first which was nice and easy because she knows play - played and easily applied the rule (add -ed) to the rest of the words. Afterwards she did some irregular words that she uses a lot. She needed quite a lot of help for this, but the more we do these little exercises, the more naturally it will come to her.

Afterwards Judit did a very short exercise with some words she has trouble reading when she reads stories. I just wrote the words for her and asked her to write a sentance using each one. She did it very quickly and very well:

Un any sense escola

Fa un any que vam decidir desescolaritzar. A l´escola hi anaven pels matins, però a Espanya el flexi-schooling no està permés i vam decidir fer escola a casa  full time.  La Judit estava aprenent a llegir i la Sara a conèixer les lletres. A nivell de coneixements han avançat molt més que si haguéssin anat a l´escola, però el més important és la tranquilitat i la qualitat de vida que han tingut, tenen temps per tot, són lliures d´aprendre el que volen, respiren aire pur i aprenen de la propia natura, cuiden de les gallines, dels gossos, dels gatets i les formigues. Planten a l´hort, sembren flors i treuen males herbes. Es fan el llit, s´endrecen la roba, fan el dinar i aprenen a tenir cura de la casa, de la neteja i l´ordre. I tot i així els sobra molt i molt temps per llegir, escriure als seus diaris, córrer, anar en bicicleta i fer una pila d´extra-escolars. Tenen temps per observar, per avorrir-se i imaginar, per endinsar-se dins del món de la fantasia, el seu món de fades i princeses que tant els agrada i inventar-se contes estrafolaris i graciosos que els fan petar de riure... Estem junts, sempre, en familia, aprenent de la globalitat de la vida, perquè la vida ensenya i els nens volen i desitjen aprendre per ser com el papa i la mama...

Millorant la lectura: l´entonació i l´agilitat

Avui hem sembrat moltes llavors de flors d´estiu, primer hem desembrossat i preparat la terra, hem regat i finalment llençat les llavors escampades per tot arreu... També hem sembrat bulbs i arrels, ens agraden molt les flors i es màgic observar com creixen i a poc a poc esclaten amb tot de colors...

Els arbres fruiters ja comencen a treure fruit, com el pruner i la figuera. Els presseguers, els perers i les pomeres els haurem de sulfatar...

Els regals del dia de la mare que m´han fet... són perfectes!

Spelling!

Sara is doing really well with her spelling, at the moment she is working on the sounds‘sh,’ ‘ch’ and ‘th’. She had a lot of difficulty at first differenciating between ‘ch’ and ‘sh’, not helped by the catalan ‘x’ (ch/sh) sound. But with a bit of help in the first exrcises, she was getting very good by the end of the page so I have made a little video for you!

The girls check their own spelling when they write their diary every morning, I don’t often have them practising spelling except for the occasional look-cover-write-check with useful but complicated words (e.g. ‘because’ for Judit), but despite not really concentrating on spelling, just the fact that they have their own word book for checking spellings, and that they write and correct themselves everyday means that I see a constant improvement.  

Judit found a worksheet she wanted to do, so I left her to read the instructions and get on with it all on her own, here’s the result with no help at all:

I’m really pleased because it shows that she can fully understand the instructions, and also she has chosen all the correct words. It would have been easy to think that the dog is ‘sitting’ in the pool, but she read the phrase and realised that it wasnt going to sound right: (*Rover likes to sitting in the pool) and found a word that fitted. I’m impressed! I am going to lok for some more reading comprehension and fill in the blanks worksheets for her to work through on her own, which will give her more independence and pride in her work.

We have had a look at our experiment for sugar crystals... but there aren't any yet! we'll leave it a few more days to see if we get any!

Multiplicar amb cigrons

La Judit està aprenent a multiplicar i perquè li resulti més entenedor i lògic utilitzem cigrons (podria ser macarrons, pedretes, caniques, caramels, qualsevol cosa) Nosaltres no fem anar material Montessori però sí que ens agrada molt la seva filosofia, aprendre tocant i experimentant, i sempre que podem construim el nostre propi material. La veritat que amb aquest sistema multiplicar és ben fàcil.

La Sara li agrada molt sumar i restar i avui en un moment ha fet dues pàgines del quadernet.

Avui per primer cop hem agafat els gatets de la Mika i hem jugat una estoneta, ara ja tenen 4 setmanes i són més grans, en petit Jordi no s´ho podia creure, estava molt conent i els tocava amb molt de compte. Les nenes estaven encantades, aquests gatets seran molt sociables!

Homemade, fet a casa

Aquí on vivim això del fet a casa no té gaire importancia, però a Anglaterra i Alemanya tot allò que sigui homemade té molt valor. És una llàstima que no es valorin les coses fetes a mà, i es valorin més els productes manufacturats per la gran industria. Potser són més "capritxosos" o tenen més bona presencia però és evident que avui i sempre les coses que puguem fer nosaltres tenen més valor i són més sanes perquè hi posem ingredients de primera qüalitat, com aquestes palmeres de sucre i els rotllos de xocolata blanca i panses que hem fet aquest matí. A més a més així aprenem d´on venen les coses i com es fan, i cultivem la nostra cultura i dieta mediterranea.

Anar a l´hort i collir les primeres carxofes d´aquesta temportada, acompanyar-les amb un parell de cebes mmm quina materia prima més bona!

Per acompanyar les verdures ens fa falta hidrats de carboni, amb la pasta fresca tindrem un dinar complert, a més a més ens encanta, és fàcil de fer i és fresca, els ingredients, farina, ous, oli d´oliva i una mica de sal.

Visita al periódico

Avui hem anat a visitar la Rotativa del Periódico a Parets del Vallés. Ha estat una visita impressionant i tots hem disfrutat molt, a més a més ens han regalat llibres, dvd´s i diaris. El que més ens ha sobtat és les grans dimensions de la nau industrial, la maquinaria molt sofisticada, tot el treball és en cadena, desde l´emmagatzematge del paper, la impressió, el muntatge i la distribució. Els rollos de paper són gegants i cada dia en fan anar més de 200! Amb un rotllo imprimeixen uns 7000 diaris.

La temperatura ha d´estar sempre controlada per tal que hi hagi la humitat correcte i el paper així no es trenqui.

Després hem anat a un parc del costat que hi havia molts i molts ànecs! Així com qui no vol la cosa hem trobat tres ous, tortugues i moltes varietats de flors!
